The Sustainable Studio, established in July 2016 within a former munitions factory on Curran Road, Cardiff, is an artist-led space offering affordable studios and opportunities for creative ventures. Collaborating with organizations and educational institutions, they support students and the community in their artistic journeys. Founders Sarah and Julia focus on grassroots initiatives for BAME and LGBTQIA+ communities, providing accessible courses and organizing industry-related activities. Sustainability is central to their work, reflected in the slow fashion brand Dati Clothing and eco-conscious projects. The studio houses various makers and businesses aligned with sustainability principles, creating a supportive space for eco-conscious making.
Captivated by The Sustainable Studio’s commitment to fostering creativity and sustainability, I embarked on a documentary photography series to showcase their impactful work. Sarah, Julia, their father Mike, and the vibrant community of makers inspired me to capture their journey, emphasizing the intersection of art, education, and environmental consciousness.
